The techniques for building and maintaining plain-wire and barbed-wire fences have not changed much in decades. But that is all about to change. The newly-patented “TensionGrip” is one of those simple things that when you see it, and see it demonstrated, you can’t understand why someone didn’t think of it sooner. TensionGrip was born from the frustration of seeing a three hundred metre section of four-strand barbed wire smashed by a randy bull. It is made from high-carbon spring steel and zinc-plated for long-life. It is guaranteed for 25 years, so it will more than likely outlast your fence wire. And it is easy to remove so it can be used again and again. How does it work? There are no special tools required. Simply push a TensionGrip onto the wire on either side of each fence post when you are constructing the fence, or retrofit to existing fences. A few seconds is all it takes, and you don’t have to be Mr Universe to do it! Save time and Save money! When you are building a new fence the additional cost of the TensionGrips is offset by the fact that you no longer need to install tension posts and you can tension the wire post by post — you no longer have to try and tension hundreds of metres of wire at once. It’s an installers dream come true! But the real savings come in the maintenance of your fences. To repair a broken fence all you need is a one-metre length of wire and a pair of riggers gloves. Because you are tensioning only 10 to 20 metres of wire you can do it by hand. A broken section of fence can be repaired in just a few minutes without needing any special tools. Because the tension in your fence is lower, you won’t have to retension it as often, and the wire will last longer. You can also use TensionGrips to create temporary openings in wire fences. Simply cut though the fence, drive the animals through and rejoin the wires afterwards - and it only takes a few minutes. TensionGrips are not just for barbed wire fences. You can also use them to simplify the construction and maintenance of any through-post plain wire fence, in applications such as grape-growing, orchards or any other wire-supported crop.
